June 2010
We stood and watched some brave people trying out rafting and both wished it was us having a go but we knew that would have to be next time. Some instructors were out on the water playing and made it look very easy. The water is much to fast for our level of kayaking but we were really excited to hear about the low flow evenings they run every other Wednesday evening and put it on our list of things to do.
We travelled on to Neath and just north of Neath I found a place I had been meaning to revisit for 20 years. Melin Court Falls is an 80 foot waterfall about 400 yards down a footpath off the main road. It was a beautiful walk in the sunshine and the waterfall was just as I remembered it. We climbed around the back for an unusual view from behind the water.
Nicky we should have Canyoned it back!!!!!!
After stopping in Neath for a spot of lunch and shopping (mainly as I had forgotten to pack my swimming shorts) we headed on to llangenith where we were to meet with Ad and his friends. Traffic was bad and after a umm scenic route we arrived at Llangenith beach. A beautiful sand beach about 2 or 3 miles long.
We met with Ad knee deep in the sea and sat on the beach watching the surfers and kayakers doing their thing until the others were ready to go to the campsite.
The Campsite at Port Eynon was very busy and after sweet talking the frightening land owner we were allowed in to join the others. We put up our tent and while it dried out (Thanks Leah !!! ) we went for a walk to the beach. We had great fun paddling out to the island, taking photos and planning a kayak trip.
The evening was then spent laughing, joking talking and cooking around the barbecues. The neighbours were a bit rowdy and what with fire breathing and flying lanterns were entertaining for a little while but the novelty wore off at about 3 o’clock in the morning!
Sunday morning bright and early we got up and without disturbing the others went for a morning paddle on the sea.
Agoraphobia drove us in after about 45 minutes and we joined the others for breakfast.
Tents packed away and cars loaded we headed back to the beach. We managed to park close to the path and carried our boats and beach gear to the beach. We dropped of our stuff and headed straight to the sea. The surf was great and after a slow start we had a fantastic time surfing in our boats. The number of people in the sea started to make it dangerous for us to be there so we headed back for some lunch and a sit in the sun. There were to many people for us to go back on the sea so after lunch we packed up and headed home.
We had a fantastic time so thanks to Ad for inviting us.
